Oppo just sort of strikes me as a place I can just do this, right? As you can see, it’s an insulated door. 18 x 7 feet. I attached aftermarket LED lights for wood working projects (You can never have too many clamps or too much light). It’s got a rubber belt on a Chamberlain lift that hooks into wifi and an app on my phone. Also a pad outside to open with a code. I love having that. It’s a good door. Added when I built the garage in 2015. Today the garage is clean as it’s been in a while. Friday I have the ceiling spray foamed so I have to move all the tools and stuff back. Also on the door are two ‘i voted’ stickers and a self made quote “the slower you go, the faster and better it shall be done -unless you’re driving a fun car”. Again... this is for my woodworking projects.

I want a car hole so bad.

Ah, it is good. Yet I rarely park cars in here.... it’s all about chopping up dead wood and g luing it back together in useful ways. Hail may change that on occasion... but only one car can get in there on any given day.

I’m inspired by your lighting setup. I built a contraption out of metal studs that works ok, but your deal is slick.

Now, I’ve done my own garage auxiliary wiring myself, so I may not have much room to talk, but the wiring on a movable door gives me pause. Keep an eye on your wires and connections so they don’t snag   or pinch. I’m a little concerned that the whole thing could become ‘live’.  I’m guessing you leave it unplugged when not in use, which is good.

Fair concern. Things are a bit different from normal in the picture The plugged in wire from the wall is generally in a sling that allows the door to open and close without the possibility of pitching the line.

I could see where you’re coming from but having used this design for a couple years now, all has gone well.

thanks. In the summer I like to work with the garage door up.  This gives me great light no matter where the door is

W here did you get those LED bar lights? Are they on a standard plug set up?

Cool lights! I got one of those Chamberlain belt-drive motors too, the motor is a bit whiny but feels so much more powerful than the poor struggling thing that it replaced.

No joke, I parked in the garage for 15 years. Then I started parking outside 2 years ago and my car (a 2001) has more than doubled the number of problems it has had, from cracked trim to water intrusion. Sitting outside is brutal on everything, especially in lower latitudes.

A garage is like adding lanes to the interstate. That shit’s gonna fill up no matter how good your intentions. No wonder half my neighbors park one or both cars outside.

My truck has spent every night of it’s life outside since 1985. I desperately want it to finally rest inside a garage so I can start restoration

I want to say home depot. Been a little while. They are light and hold fast to the door. Each one is about 6 feet long. I can’t recall if they were wired out of the box ... will check tonight.

I really need to insulate my door!

and those lights are a great idea too, so often when I close the door there is such darkness at the rear of my cars. legit good idea

Also neat to have light with the door is open.

Maybe use 2 inch foam board surrounded with spray foam?

another valid point. I added quite a lot of overhead lighting, some of which is blocked when the door is open
